| Integrated Studies (I.S) |
|
| I.S. covers History, Geography and Technology and whenever possible, these subjects are linked to the Science theme being studied. The History programme aims to develop a sense of chronology, to teach the children about changes in everyday life over long periods of time and to develop an awareness of the cultural heritage handed down to us from peoples of the past. The Geography programme, in addition to knowledge of the earth and space covered by science, also covers mapwork skills in relation to Mauritius, Europe and the World. The purpose of the Technology programme is to encourage the children's creative ability in the design of objects, structures, models or systems and to give them experience in generating their own ideas and solving their own problems either individually or in a group. This may be linked to work in Science, I.S., Art and Craft or Maths. These subjects are often presented in project form. This gives the children the opportunity to practise their library and information-retrieval skills. It also encourages them to develop an enquiring mind and gives them confidence in their own ability to question, research, collect data and collate it into an organised and informative report. |
